Why is following Jesus and making disciples so important to us?
Following Jesus. Making Disciples.
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
Our vision at Grace Free is to live out the earliest callings from Jesus to the church. In Matthew 4:19 Jesus calls His first disciples with a simple request to “Follow Him.” We believe that simple request is still offered today and we want to answer it with an emphatic yes. We want to be a church that invites others to answer the call of Jesus to follow Him!
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Jesus commissioned His followers to make disciples of all nations. This happens as we go, and baptize, and teach. Jesus did not call His followers to make converts, but he called them to make disciples. Discipleship is not a onetime event, but a lifetime of learning and growing in our relationship with Christ. Grace Free desires to be a church that takes seriously the commission of our risen Lord and is active in making disciples of Jesus.
